Police from Kikuyu Police Station have today recovered 7,360,000 fake US dollars equivalent to Sh736,000,000.
The money was recovered in Kari forest Muguga ward.
Kikuyu Deputy County Commissioner Birgen Kiptoo said the police were tipped off by members of the public on Tuesday morning about a safe which had been broken into within town and people were making away with dollar notes.
He added that no suspect has been arrested yet adding that the huge sum of money is a clear indicator that the owners have been doing this for some time.
Kiptoo has urged the public to be vigilant and cooperate with the police to find the criminals. He said the bankers should also be careful not to receive such fake money.
Police in Kikuyu have put residents on high alert following the discovery saying the safe was being transported to some place as it had a genuine seal.
They theorise that the money was probably headed for exchange into Kenyan currency.
