'Feed the finger that once fed you' is a saying that Bishop Peter Hunjah, the presiding Bishop of the Global Springs of Life Ministries believes in and has practiced today when he issued packets of Unga to the elderly, the needy and the physically as well as the mentally challenged at Tala.
Bishop Hunjah believes that the elderly were there before us and they deserve to be well taken care of and appreciated as they were the same people who toiled day and night to feed us.
He stated that his main reason for reaching out today was to make the elderly people know that the church appreciates them. 'These are the people who have made us who we are and we need to stand by them,' the Bishop added as he refered to them as ' golden boys and girls.
'Speaking at the Global Elderly Vision offices where he issued out the bags of flour, he also challenged young people to come back and help their old relatives stating that these young men marry and live in towns with their wives deserting their elderly parents to languish in poverty.
He further asserted that he was not after any elective post as a part of the residents had earlier alleged mentioning that he was content with being a Bishop and a man of the cloth. Making reference to a recent rape case of a mentally and physically challenged girl who had been locked up in a house, he asked the residents to bring such people out so that they can get help.
The Bishop also asked the people in charge of the elderly to be fair in selecting the beneficiaries of the funds allocated to the elderly. He alleged that there were people who were taking the little that the elderly people were getting by threatening them of removing them from the list if they didn't comply.
He warned them that their days were numbered. In a function that was attended by the wife of Hon Katatha Maweu, Kangundo MP, Bishop Hunjah called on all well-wishers to come out and help boost the Global Elderly vision to be able to reach out to the elderly and other needy people in the villages.
