Speaking during Friday’s morning show at Royal Media’s Egesa FM, Dr Fred Matiang’i said the habit was hindering delivery of quality education, and directed regional education officers to take actions against culprits.

“I have said this time and again that no funeral should be held in any public institution. The habit hampers delivery of quality education because children are either sent home or remains distracted during normal classes,” he said.

“All school heads must take prime responsibility as Secretaries to Board of Management and decline any attempts by the communities to push for that. I have communicate to all county education directors and whoever will be found culpable will face interdiction,” he added.

He warned powerful politicians who were inciting the community to demand for school fields saying the law protected school heads from any external intimidation.

“I know some of those directives come from powerful politicians but school heads must be sure that the law protects them. No one can implicate them simply because they defend the future of our children. They must be tough of such issues or face a penalty from the ministry,” he said.

The tough talking CS also warned school heads against charging students an approximated 400 for online registration of exams.

“The government of Kenya pays for all costs meant for examination registration. I am aware that some school heads are charging 400 for online registration. That is illegal and I am coming for them,” he said.
