Kambas are bantu ethnic group who occupied Eastern province, now Makueni, Kitui and Machakos counties.

Traditionally, Kamba people were hunters and gatherers before they started barter trade with the neighbouring Kikuyu and Meru communities.

Information from guide.com, UNHCR and Ethnologue shows that when Kamba started trading in ivory, millet, canes and brass amulets, they moved closer to Mount Kenya.

The Kamba referred to Mount Kenya as "Kiinyaa", meaning Ostrich country because the snow capped Mountain resembled a male ostrich which is called, "Kiinyaa."

This was later pronounced as "Kenya" and that is how Kenya got her name.

Kamba people are also good in pottery, basketry and wood carvings.
