Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has distanced himself from a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) result slip doing rounds on social media.

The governor dismissed the slip suggesting he scored a D – (minus) as fake, and clarified that the name appearing on the result slip was not his registration name.

"The Governor's full name is not as indicated on the result slip. His name is Hassan Ali Joho not Ali Hassan. That is fake,” read a statement sent to newsrooms by Mombasa County Director of Communications Richard Chacha.

The certificate has been trending on social media with the hashtag #JohoTheDMinusGovernor.

The document shows that a certain Ali Hassan who sat his KCSE exam in 1993, scored a D- (minus) with an E in Maths.

This comes days after Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i announced he will revoke certificates of those who acquired university degrees despite having scored a C plain and below in their form four exams.
