A 27-year-old student from Kabarak University was on Monday detained by a Marsabit court of law.

The student has been detained for 14 days pending investigations linking him to terrorism.

According to The Nation newspaper, Javan Morton alias Jamal, was arrested on Friday in Jaldesa community conservancy in Marsabit County by rangers and administration police at a borehole within the conservancy.

Marsabit County criminal investigations officer, Bernard Barasa said that Jamal hails from Vihiga County and was heading to Somalia to link up with his friends who had joined the Al-Shabaab militia group.

The law student in Kabarak University was found with a note book containing information on how to destroy buildings, modem, hard drive and also materials used to make explosives.

The court ruled the suspect be held in custody for 14 days to allow investigations by the anti-terrorism police unit.

The prosecution had, however, applied for the suspect to be held for 30 days.
