A Masaba KNUT official has welcomed the ongoing formation of a concrete Kenya Parents Association that will work alongside the Ministry of Education and existing teachers unions on matters education.
Education CS Fred Matiangi on Tuesday hinted progress in the formation of the organisation which will replace a similar one that has been under the supervision of Musau Ndunda.
Mr James Oteki, the branch Deputy Secretary General backed the new parents’ body saying it would help parents have a formal input in all education matters.
“I want to thank education Cabinet Secretary for radical reforms he is spearheading in the sector. Parents need to have a say on matters education and that can be done through a formal organization recognized by the government,” he said.
“For many years now, they have been locked out of key education decisions that often affect our schools. I welcome the new organization that is being formed .They will help us streamline the education sector through their formal input,” he added.
Oteki however called for structured elections from the grassroots to have representation from all parts of the country to avoid conflict of interest.
“It is my humble advice to those formatting the organization to ensure grassroots elections are held to bring about uniform representation from the ground to avoid conflicts of interest. Parents must be represented from the lowest level just like the network established by KNUT,” he said.
