The meeting was attended by the Mau Mau veterans and their family members.

Mr Mutua is currently battling it out with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka over the control of a region which, according to the IEBC, recorded one of the highest number of new voters in February.

The meeting could tilt political waves in favour of Mr Mutua since Mau Mau veterans wield power from their respective regions.

They are regarded as opinion leaders who often give political direction to their communities every election time.

Mutua was elected governor on a Wiper party ticket but has since broken ranks with Mr Kalonzo who heads the party.

He recently formed the Maendeleo Chap Chap, a party through which he intends to seek for re-election in 2017.

"The elderly people in our community deserve to live decently and to be well taken care of. The Machakos county government through the Machakos Social Welfare Board has in the past three years been working to address the plight of the elderly people in our county as well as other disadvantaged groups," Mutua posted on on his official Facebook page on Wednesday.

"I am humbled by the veterans' expression of support to my development-oriented politics that is manifested through the Maendeleo Chap Chap ideology."

In April, Mutua led a group of professionals from Ukambani to State House where he held talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto.

Since his election in 2013, the governor has been close to the Jubilee administration.

Senator Johnston Muthana, a close confidant of Kalonzo criticised the the trip saying the meeting was only a 'tea party'.

Kalonzo has faulted Mutua for failing to uplift the livelihoods of the people of Machakos.

Early in the year, he threatened organise for a swearing in ceremony for Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala to take over the leadership of the county.

Mutua then, had spent close to a month outside the country.

Supremacy battles between the two leaders are expected to play out during President Uhuru's visit to Ukambani in July.
