Cord leader Raila Odinga is set for a two-day tour to the vote-rich Gusii region to counter the growing influence of the Jubilee government.
Mr Odinga scored fairly well from the region in the 2013 elections but Jubilee under the stewardship of President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto is making inroads in the region and have flagged off a host of projects with the most recent one being in April this year.
West Mugirango MP James Gesami confirmed the visit scheduled for June 8-9 saying the former Prime Minister will be on a ‘meet-the-people’ tour in both Nyamira and Kisii counties before holding strategic meetings with key political leaders from the region.
“The Prime Minister will be in Nyamira on June 8 before going to the neighbouring Kisii on June 9. It will be a meet-the- people tour so that he gets to know what our people are going through and from which we will come with a better manifesto,” he added.
“He shall also meet top political and community leadership from the entire Gusii region for a strategic meeting ahead of the 2017 polls. The Nyamira meeting will be special because this is the first time he will be coming since 2013,” said Gesami who also doubles up as the county ODM chair.
Rialia is also expected to solve gubernatorial crises in both counties given that Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama of ODM is facing constant criticisms from the party’s national treasurer Timothy Bosire while his Kisii counterpart Governor James Ongwae is reportedly at logger heads with Senator Chris Obure who has also expressed interest in the seat.
