Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi has asked youth and women to take advantage of government funds to engage in entrepreneurship, in a bid to curb the rising rate of unemployment in the country.
Speaking on Tuesday at Madauni Grounds in Airport Ward during a sensitisation programme with the Youth Enterprise Fund, Women Enterprise Fund and Uwezo Fund committees, the legislator expressed concern over the low uptake of loans by youth and women from the kitties.
"There are underlying opportunities for our youth and women in these government funds that can help them start businesses of their own. This can go a long way in solving the unemployment puzzle among the youth in the country," he said.
"But I am very much worried that most of our youth have not embraced these programmes that can greatly help in improving their living standards," he added.
Omar urged the target groups to apply for the loans as groups and benefit from the kitties that have been rolled countrywide.
