First, she was posted at Highway Secondary School and later at the prestigious Kenya High School where she was teaching Geography.

Ida became very popular since none of the girls who took Geography ever failed in their exams.

She learnt about the arrest of her husband in 1982 while in Germany where she had taken a group of Kenya High students to see some physical features, and had to return to the country immediately.

Raila's arrest marked the beginning of her hard life as a wife, mother, and and as a teacher, since her husband was put to detention for more than six years.

"I told my students that I would give them my best, but they also had to work harder for my sake," Ida recounted.

Among the students she taught at Kenya High and rose to become prominent Kenyans include Supreme Court Judge Njoki Ndung’u and former Mavoko MP Wavinya Ndeti.

Others are Senator James Orengo’s wife lawyer Betty Murungi and former Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso who died on Monday.

Ida up-to-date has maintained a close relationship with her former students who have become very successful in various fields.

She was dramatically transferred from Kenya High in 1988, and posted at the Ministry of Education headquarters as an education officer where she worked for three years before the government finally sacked her for political reasons.
