President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday signed into law two Bills.
The head of state signed the County Allocation of Revenue Bill, 2019 and Copyright (Amendment) Act 2019 into law during a brief ceremony conducted at State House, Nairobi.
Under the County Allocation of Revenue Act 2019, all the 47 county governments will have an equal share of the revenue allocation at the national level for this next financial year.
It also advocates for the wiring of funds from the Consolidated Funds to various counties.
“The County Allocation of Revenue Act 2019 provides for the equitable allocation of revenue raised nationally among the county governments for the 2019/20 financial year.
"The Act also facilitates the transfer of the allocated funds from the Consolidated Fund to respective County Revenue Funds,” said State House.
The Copyright (Amendment) Bill, 2019 addresses the issue of sharing royalties among artists.
The law was enacted after artists raised concerned following meagre royalties they received from Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).
“The Copyright (Amendment) Act 2019 is aimed at addressing growing concerns about royalty rights in the country especially the collection and disbursement of fees and dues to copyright holders,” added the statement.
The ceremony was witnessed by Deputy President Dr William Ruto, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, his Senate counterpart Ken Lusaka, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua and Attorney General Paul Kihara.
Others were present were Garissa MP Aden Duale and Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo.
