Nyamira County Governor John Nyagarama has warned nurses and doctors against the selling of public drugs.
The county boss speaking on Monday when he flagged off drugs and non-pharmaceuticals valued at Sh30 million said any nurse or doctor found selling drugs meant for the public will be dealt with accordingly.
"For a bit, sometimes public health centres across the county have been experiencing a shortage of drugs. As we release the drugs to the public health centres in the county I want to ask medics not to sell the drugs to private clinics and refer poor patients to the clinics to buy the drugs expensively," he stated.
He argued that private clinics operating near public health centres will be shut down to curb cases of public drugs being sold to the clinics.
The Governor challenged health workers to be satisfied with their salaries and stop selling drugs meant to be given for free to patients seeking medical services.
"I am encouraging health workers to maintain a high level of integrity and accountability. My administration is committed to ensuring the affordable provision of health services to all residents," said Nyagarama.
