Monica Wanjiru, the wife to former Naivas Supermarket boss Simon Mukuha has died, only a few weeks after the burial of her husband.
Wanjiru succumbed to cancer at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi on Tuesday, with people close to her telling the Nation that she succumbed after a long battle with the illness.
The death was confirmed by Naivas Managing Director David Kimani, who said that the deceased died while being treated at the facility's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) section.
Kimani said that the deceased had been at the facility for two weeks, following her return from India where she had been flown for treatment.
The deceased was flown back to Kenya after doctors found that the disease was at an advanced stage, proposing that she be put under palliative care.
The death came only three weeks after the burial of her husband, who held the position of Naivas Chairman.
Kimani said that the deceased will be laid to rest at the Langata Cemetery in Nairobi on Tuesday.
Her husband was laid to rest at the same cemetery on August 29, with the latest development coming as a double tragedy for the family.
