A Kiambu woman was on Sunday arrested for allegedly locking out census officials from her house in Juja, Kiambu County on Sunday, and refusing to take part in the national exercise.

Nelly Kinja who is a tenant at Joyland Estate allegedly locked out the officials on grounds that she wouldn't be counted as the government has already overburdened her with taxes.

Juja Sub County Police Commander Dorothy Migarisha said that the accused used vulgar language against the officials, telling them that the entire process is useless to her.

She said that the accused further lied to the enumerators, who were accompanied by an area elder, that she had already been enumerated on Saturday which was found out to be a lie.

She further claimed that she was the owner of the premises, and would not hand over her details to the same government that is already overburdening her with land rates.

The police boss said that the accused who was taken to the Juja Police Station after the incident.

This comes after the government's declaration that it will handle the exercise with ghw required seriousness, in a bid to keep unnecessary interruptions at bay.

Those found guilty of refusing to participate or risk a Sh500, 000 fine or a one year jailterm or even both.
