Speaking at Amasago High School during the celebration of International Water Day on Thursday, Ongori said programs were in place to dig boreholes to serve regions with acute shortage of water.

‘‘The county government is keen to ensure every homestead, market centres and institutions receive clean pumped water. We have put all mechanisms in place and already some regions have benefited from the county government project,” he said.

He urged residents to, however, pay bills to avoid facing restrictions from Kisii Water and Supply Company which is government owned.

“Our task as the county government is to ensure availability of clean water. Pumping it to strategic centres such as markets and schools and even homesteads is done for free. However, you must also play your role by paying bills in time,” he said.

During the function, Ongori commissioned a new borehole at Amasago Primary School which is also expected to serve Keumbu market and other surrounding homesteads.
