Business people and traders at KwaMaiko trading centre in Githunguri constituency, Kiambu County are lamenting over rising cases of insecurity and want the police to act.
The business people are alleging rise in criminal activities targeting their businesses, claiming that cases of their shops being broken into are on the rise.
“We are urging the police to increase security surveillance and deal with criminals targeting our businesses,” Peter Kinyanjui, a resident told this writer.
Kinyanjui, who owns hardware in KwaMaiko trading centre said that crime is on the rise.
“In the past two weeks, three shops have been broken into and property stolen,” he alleged, adding that crime is increasing despite police patrols.
“Our business is at risk and we want to appeal to our Member of Parliament (MP) Njoroge Baiya to help us on the matter,” said Salome Wanjiku, a trader.
Wanjiku said that their businesses will go down if security is not guaranteed. She alleged that most crimes are being committed by young people blaming lack of jobs on rising criminal activities.
“Our young people must be given jobs so that they can keep off crime and other bad activities,” she said.
Speaking on phone on Saturday, Kiambu County Commissioner Alex Nkoyo said that police will not tolerate crime. He said that police have been directed to ensure security of residents across the county.
