Nominated Senator Janet Ong’era has blamed National assembly speaker Justin Muturi on the chaos that marred parliament on Thursday during President Uhuru’s address to the nation.
Speaker Muturi threw out eight opposition MPs who reportedly whistled and heckled the Head of State during the event.
However, Ong’era now wants Muturi to take full responsibility for the matter for an ‘irrational’ ruling that led to a protest by the opposition.
“The speaker should take full responsibility on the ugly scenarios in parliament. His ruling was irrational and showed how partial he has been when conducting house business,” Ong’era said.
“It’s really disappointing that Muturi cannot allow a member to stand on a point of order that was raised by MP John Mbadi," she said.
"He should have allowed him to speak to the president so that oppositions’ issues were accommodated but he failed to show leadership,” she added.
Ong’era backed the eight legislators led by Party chairman John Mbadi and Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi who have been sanctioned by the house leadership.
“The MPs whistled in discontent with the Speaker’s ruling and not the president. To settle the matter, he should withdraw all sanctions against them because he is to blame," said Ong'era.
"We want a speaker who treats minority and majority equally without bias which was not the case," she added.
