Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka has dismissed sensational claims that he will be in the gubernatorial race in 2017 elections.
This comes after speculations in social media that the son of a former powerful minister Zachary Onyonka will be among those challenging incumbent Governor James Ongwae.
Speaking at Mosocho on Sunday, the ODM rebel MP dismissed the speculations as ‘sheer’ propaganda urging his supporters to ignore them.
”I have heard it (rumors) but I want to be very crystal clear that I am happy with my current role as MP," said Onyonka.
"I still believe that my people need me so I am not planning to abandon them,” he added.
“I do not like listening to sheer propaganda and it’s my wish that we dismiss them," he said.
"Those who are intending to run for the gubernatorial seat are known and let them face each other peacefully,” he added.
He defended his sour relationship with the county leadership terming Ongwae’s administration as a ‘disgrace’ to the people of Kisii and warned of a revolution in 2017 if clanism and nepotism claims are not handled.
“I don’t oppose my governor but I feel sometimes it’s important to challenge where he goes wrong," said Onyonka.
"We have evidence of clanism in development and nepotism in both recruitment and awarding of tenders,” said the second-term MP.
“That’s what I am opposing and not Ongwae as a person. He should be however careful because I am projecting a revolution against his administration in 2017," he said.
"It’s time to fix it because he has been a disgrace to the county all long,” said the Legislator.
