Teachers in Kisumu have lauded the move to disband and arrest Kenya National Examinations Council officials.
Kenya Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisumu County executive secretary Zablon Awange said on Friday that the disbandment is overdue.
Awange said the move is bold and will help the Council to regain its lost credibility.
He said the Council was responsible for the leakage of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations.
“Mtihani House was rotten, corruption as the order of the day, on behalf of Kisumu teachers, I want to thank education cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i for breaking that cartel,” he said.
Awange said most Principals were being forced to pay huge amounts of money to prevent cancellation of their examinations.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu, Awange said police should carry out a thorough investigation into the Council activities.
He said that results for students who were cancelled should be released since the crime was done by the examination council officials.
Awange said there should be total overhaul of the examination council and if possible change of name as a way of giving it a new life.
“The education system had already gone to the dogs. Let everybody at the office be probed and be sent home. We want a new team will steer the Council to greater heights,” he said.
