Japheth Koome in a press conference on Sunday said the protests against Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) were illegal.

"I have enough officers for tomorrow's (Monday) demonstration. If you have nothing to do in the city please sleep in your house," he said.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet also declared the demos illegal, saying there was a court order that bars Cord from protesting.

"Just as much as we were compelled by court to allow Cord to hold a rally on June 1, this time around the court has clearly stated that they are not allowed to hold protests until that matter is heard on June 6. We will be on hand to ensure that the law as it is obeyed by everyone,” Boinnet said in Mombasa.

However, Cord through Siaya Senator James Orengo has maintained that the weekly demonstrations will continue, on Monday.

Orengo said they were acting within constitutional provisions.

Cord says the order given by Justice Isaac Lenaola last week only barred them from storming IEBC offices and destroying the commission’s property.

Three people died in Siaya and Kisumu counties in the previous anti-IEBC protests after being shot by the police.
