Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi has defended Governor Mike Sonko whose leadership is currently under criticism.
This comes only a few days after county lawmakers, led by Senator Johnson Sakaja, bashed the county boss over alleged poor leadership that they term as goon-like leadership.
However, the Speaker on Sunday came to his rescue, terming it wrong to question his leadership style now, yet people knew the same when they elected him in 2017.
She suggested that some of the governor's behaviors, which are also being questioned, might be an effect of him being an orphan, and should be understood and accepted as he is.
"We voted for Sonko. We knew his style of leadership. Kenyans forget that Sonko is an orphan," she said in an interview on Punchline on Sunday night.
She also questioned the revival of Sonko's criminal life, after the Shimo La Tewa prison demanded that he goes back to complete his 11 months imprisonment, after being jailed for 12 months in March 1998.
The case has been revived by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) which has been probing the governor over possible involvement in graft.
But Elachi is wondering why the cases are only being brought up now, yet it had always been known that he had issues with the authorities previously.
"Is it today that we realized that Sonko was at Shimo la Tewa? Surely, there is a bigger issue here than we see," she added.
The county boss has so far failed to block the EACC from summoning him, with the latest data from the commission claiming that he received millions in kickbacks from some of the companies awarded tenders by his leadership.
