Ex-IEBC commissioner Dr Roslyne Akombe has revisited the killings of two prominent human rights activists, Oscar Kingara and George Paul Oulu.
In a tweet, Akombe indirectly cast aspersions on the state in regard to the death of the two activists.
“On the morning of 5 March 2009, the day Oulu and Kingara were killed, the Government spokesman, Dr. Alfred Mutua [now Governor], issued a scathing attack. Dr. Mutua issued a not so veiled threat. Less than 12 hours later, Oulu and Kingara were dead,” she said.
However, the government still came out to send representatives to a summit that protects human rights.
“During the subsequent sitting of the United Nations Human Rights Council, barely two months after the assassination of Oulu and Kingara, the Government sent delegations led by Prof. George Saitoti, the second was led Senior Counsel James Orengo” she added.
The two were killed around Nairobi University on the evening of March 5, 2009.
Kingara was the Executive Director of the Oscar Foundation Free Legal Aid Clinic Kenya (OFFLACK), while Oulo, commonly known as GPO, was his Communications and Advocacy Officer.
They were shot dead in their car by unknown people, who up to today have never been identified.
During her time as the IEBC Commissioner, the then IEBC ICT manager, Chris Msando was also killed under unclear circumstances.
She later fled back to the US where she said that while in Kenya, she received death threats.
