The Kibera MP, Ken Okoth has been well known by residents as a number one advocator for education.
This has seen him start a campaign in the slums dubbed Elimu Kwanza, to call for slum children to embrace education. Okoth believes that it is only education that can change the slum.
''Empowering a person by giving him education is more important than giving him money,''he said.
His campaign has appealed for more youths to join schools. Raising the number of high school students in the area to 400,000. The population is too high that he had to build two more secondary schools to help students get spaces in schools.
Okoth has advised female students to apply for scholarships. He took on his official Facebook platform to call on the girls in the slum to apply for scholarships to help them continue with their studies. He shared quite a number of organisations offering scholarships to women in developing countries and asked them to try their luck.
The scholarships are done by After School Africa foundation to help women in developing countries get scholarships.
