A second year Biomedical student at JKUAt was on Monday found dead in her house in Juja, following a series of love issues with her lover.
The 22-year-old student was found dead by her friends who went to pick her as they head for a morning class.
According to Jane Mwai, a friend to the late student, the deceased had been having love issues with her boyfriend, and might have been the reason.
“She was very depressed, in fact the past two days I spent it with her because she was really not herself. But from yesterday she was okay and even jovial after she confirmed they had sought out the issue. I am shocked with what happened,” said Mwai.
According to Juja OCPD Isaac Thuranira, who confirmed the incident in his office on Monday, the girl committed suicide by taking rat poison.
He said that the student took three sachets of rat poison which were recovered in her room.
“The boyfriend is alleged to have had an affair with another girl which frustrated the deceased and led to her committing suicide,” said Thuranira.
He also said that cases of student committing crime as a result of love were on the rise, stating that this was the sixth case this year.
“I want to urge our students not to commit suicide when involved in love issues. Let them seek other alternatives such as guidance and counselling in case of such issues," said the OCPD.
He said that investigations had been launched into the matter.
