Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has warned Deputy President William Ruto against hurling insults at Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Joho told Ruto to respect Odinga, saying time for immature politics was over.
The ODM governor said Cord coalition garnered more votes than the ruling coalition in 2013 polls and deserves respect.
“I want to tell Deputy President William Ruto to Respect Raila Odinga. Raila is not his age mate,” Joho said during a Cord rally in Garissa Town on Saturday.
“We will ensure Raila gets to State House in 2017 because he means well for this country,” he added.
The DP has been slamming the opposition leader over the protests against Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The opposition Cord wants IEBC commissioners out of office for allegedly planning to rig 2017 elections in favour of the ruling Jubilee coalition.
Cord last week gave the government a 10-day ultimatum to engage them in dialogue over IEBC, but the government has maintained it cannot dialogue to end the stalemate.
DP Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta have asked the Cord leaders to eject the polls bosses through constitutional means, and to end their weekly protests.
Cord said it will continue with the Monday anti-IEBC demonstrations until the commissioners leave office.
