The National Transport and Safety Authority road safety status report 2015 released this year shows that Nakuru County accounted for 151 fatalities of the national fatalities which stood at 541 deaths in 2015.
Moreover, the number of victims involved in road accident from January to March this year has increased by 1,233, a 45 per cent rise compared to the same period last year
The report also indicates that the most affected age groups in terms of fatalities are aged between 20-44, with the peak age being 30-34 , which was termed as the most productive members of society.
However, the report pointed out that bad road behaviour and attitude of the Kenyan road patrons such as drink driving, speeding, jay walking, disregard of the laws, impunity and careless and dangerous driving are among the major challenges.
Now the agency is considering engagement of the county governments through the County Transport and Safety Committee platforms among the way forward.
