Kibera bodaboda operators have applauded the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for educating them on the roads.
Led by a famous bodaboda owner in the area, Samuel Ouma, the operators said they will follow all the rules to avoid accidents in the area.
“It is important that we know each other according to the stages we operate from and we will ensure that each one of us has a driving license, insurance, helmet, reflector jacket among other traffic requirements,” he said.
He was speaking on Friday where he asked residents to be careful about the motorbikes they use.
“Residents should also help us in keeping road regulations by ensuring that they use bikes where the operator has, at least, a reflector jacket, helmet and an insurance cover,” he said.
Ouma who has a multiple bikes operating in the area said he ensures that the rider he employs is disciplined and has a driving license.
Another operator, Jack Wafula, asked NTSA to hold such forums regularly as many new operators join the industry on a day-to-day basis.
“It is dispiriting that we lose many bodaboda operators and their customers in accidents that could have probably been avoided if the operator was properly sensitised on road safety,” he said.
