An ODM Member of Parliament has dismissed sensational claims linking the opposition to toppling the government using unconstitutional means.
This comes after government spokesperson Erick Kiraithe made the claims in a press conference convened following the ongoing nationwide protests about disbandment of IEBC.
But North Mugirango MP Charles Geni has accused the government of ‘imaginary’ thinking and challenged it to embrace dialogue over the IEBC stalemate.
“The claims that the opposition is planning a coup against the government are misleading and should be ignored by peace loving Kenyans,” Geni said.
”It’s imagery thinking by a crumbling government because Cord respects the rule of law and is guided by the constitution. No one wants to overthrow the government and we all want a round table meeting to discuss how we can reconstitute IEBC for the sake of peace in the country,” he added.
He demanded that the government apologizes for putting the country in a ‘panic’ mode and accused top leadership of using junior officers to spread propaganda.
“The government ought to apologize for such remarks through Kiraithe. We cannot allow people to make such reckless remarks without substantiating. No one is planning a coup and all we want is to have IEBC removed from office due to incompetence,” he added.
