Harambee Stars Striker Michael Ogada Olunga has warned his fans against falling prey to scammers using his name on social media to solicit for money.
The Japan-based striker says he only has one official Facebook page, and at no time has he ever used the page to give out betting tips in exchange for money.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Olunga said his page is verified with a blue tick to differentiate it from other unofficial pages opened in his name.
“Morning friends just wanted to tell you to be careful with scammers pretending to be using my name especially in betting tips and asking for money. I only have one official page MICHAEL OLUNGA with a blue tick verification badge. Any other page is not mine. Thank you and have a blessed day,” he said.
The former Gor Mahia striker who plies his trade with Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol is among popular footballers in the country alongside Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama, who plays for English side Tottenham Hotspur.
The two were in the squad that recently represented Kenya in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Kenya did not make it past the group stages after finishing third with three points following a 3-2 win against neighbours Tanzania.
