Wetende who quit in 2018 to work under Governor Wilber Otichilo is said to have deliberately stayed back to meet key decision-makers at Royal Media Services on Monday.

He rejoined his colleagues at Citizen TV where he worked as a reporter winning accolades for his mastery of the Swahili language. He later quit to join Ebru TV and quickly rose through the ranks to be the station's head of news.

Wetende who accompanied Governor Otichilo for a series of interviews at RMS' sister stations was seen tied to his former workmates at the newsroom.

Governor Otichilo had appeared with him on the sidelines in the interviews at Citizen TV and Vuuka FM, a local station broadcasting in the Maragoli language.

It is still unclear as to whether Wetende would take up a senior role at RMS, even though a source at the media house confirmed to Hivisasa to having held lengthy talks.

The source, however, declined to disclose details of the discussions saying; "It is true we had discussions with him even after the governor had left. At the moment, we cannot disclose what is in the pipeline. It is not the right time."

Reached for comment on Tuesday morning, Wetende could neither deny nor confirm a possible return to Royal Media Services.

"I am still at the County government and working to deliver on my mandate as the Communications Director. That is what is important for now," he said, declining to give any further details.

In August last year, the celebrated and AJEA awards-winning Swahili news presenter at the time the Ebru TV head of news announced having ditched the media.
