Westlands MP has rubbished claims that ODM nominations for the Kibra parliamentary by-elections were not free and fair.
This follows claims that there were some underhand dealings in the primaries, with initial details suggesting that Imran Okoth's nomination was married with irregularities.
Initial publications indicated that party leader Raila Odinga was unhappy with the primaries, and even refunded the remaining nine candidates their Sh250,000 nomination fee.
However, speaking on Tuesday, Wanyonyi said that Raila was only slightly angry because the party had not updated its list of members, forcing it to use the IEBC register instead.
"There was a slight problem since the party had said that it would use its register but we found out that it had not been updated since 2013. The party leader was slightly unhappy but it was explained to him (kulikuwa na utata kidogo maana party ilisema itatumia register ya party lakini tulipata haijakuwa upated since 2013. Party leader kidogo hakufurahi lakini alielezewa akelewa)," said the lawmaker.
Wanyonyi was speaking on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha.
He also lauded the remaining candidates for accepting Imran's win and throwing their weight behind him, terming the primaries one of the best in the history of ODM.
"The good thing is that the others accepted defeat and agreed to support Imran (Kitu kizuri ni eti wale wangwana walikubali kushindwa na wakakubali kussuport Imran)," he added.
Imran is the brother to immediate former MP Ken Okoth who succumbed to cancer in July. The mini polls are slated for November 7.
