Nominated MCA Esther Mengere has called on the government to provide security to women aged 70 and above in Molo and its surroundings.

This follows the frequent cases of rape among the elderly in the area which she said was traumatising.

On Thursday, a 94-year-old woman was raped by a middle aged man in Kuresoi.

Residents have launched a man hunt of the man.

Speaking to the press in Nakuru Mengere said that they had become a target to the youth who were involved in drug and substance abuse.

“We need to ensure that our elderly people can sleep in peace. This is the fourth case we have recorded in the last four months. Otherwise the increased cases of the rape among our women is now becoming a worrying phenomenon,” she added

Mengere now wants security officers in plain clothes to be assigned for patrol in such areas.

“They should conduct patrols in the rural areas at least four times in the night and if need be walk into some of the old peoples home to see if they are alright,” she added

Mengere also asked for strict punishment for the rapist saying that they should receive harsher penalties.
