The recruits who were armed with result slips arrived at Kamwangi Primary School within which is the commissioner’s office from as early 6am only to find the rules changed.

According to Michael Kimani, one of the recruiting officers, the application information was clear that result slips would not be accepted during the exercise. He said that new rules which were to be effected as from Monday hindered many from joining the police.

At the same time, few women tuned up for the recruitment in comparison to males. There were only 24 girls and 234 males.

The head of recruitment in Kamwangi Martin Omboya said that only 32 candidates were recruited from the sub county. He said 10 girls, 22 boys acquired slots to join Kiganjo Police Training camp.

According to Omboya, no corruption case was reported in the exercise and only one male recruit identified as Joseph Kariuki appeared with a fake KCSE certificate. He was allegedly arrested.

Omboya said the area recorded a low turnout compared to previous years which he attributed to delayed release of the 2014 KCSE certificates.
