Traders at Suneka market in Kisii county have decried losses due to the ongoing rains in the region.

They are worried if the rains continue they will suffer more losses as most of them borrowed capital from the bank and chama loans to start their businesses,  and the loans are attracting weekly interest.

“It is unlucky that the rains have forced us to close down the business something that has led to losses. When it rains the number of customers decreases. This makes our stock spoil in the stores thus we incur losses," said Purity Omori. 

"Lack of shades for us to operate in the market during the rainy seasons has worsened our operations since traders can not be rained on while selling. When it is raining traders close down business for safety and fearing to be struck by lightening. As customers we can not be able to walk in the market to buy because some parts of the markets are impassable during rainy seasons due to poor drainage systems," argued Lydia Onsare a customer.
