Two days after President Uhuru Kenyatta visited Nakuru in a period of less than one month, Njoro residents are hoping that his visit will improve road network.
Moses Mithamo, a community leader in the area said that Njoro has lagged behind in infrastructure owing to stagnated leadership in the area.
He said there are no proper roads in many areas within Njoro and leaders been elected in the past, have failed to deliver to the residents.
“Take a good example of Ndebo-Mercy-Nduiriri road. Uhuru was shocked to hear that the last time it was tarmacked it was by his father in the 1970s. Imagine living in an area with no proper roads for 44 years yet we elect leaders,”he said on Monday.
He questioned the capability of those who have been holding different elective seats in the area over the lack of development.
He said that Njoro has lagged behind in development because leaders who are elected do not have the self-drive to work for the people.
“The problem is that those who we elect to work for us do nothing because, for the last 44 years, we have had no good roads among other things,” he said.
Charity Kaniaru added that they expect Kenyatta’s visit in the area last Saturday will address water concerns which have been lacking in some of the areas.
They also expect the president to address land issues in the area which has been a source of tribal clashes.
