Nakuru Catholic Diocese Bishop Maurice Muhatia termed the incident as humiliating not only to the nun but also the church.

He also accused the county government of unfairly targeting schools run by the Catholic church.

Sr Cecilia Kamau, the headmistress St Anthony Academy,a of the Catholic sponsored school was arrested Monday evening by county public health officials for blocking the immunisation more than over 700 pupils at the institution.

On his part, Nacada chair John Mututho said Governor Kinuthia Mbugua should be blamed for the arrest.

"The nun was acting on orders from the Bishop over the immunisation and it's sad that she had to be humiliated and locked up in a police cell," Mututho said.

"The blame lies squarely with the governor and it's unimaginable that the officers stripped the nun off her crucifix, head scarf and waist cord with means a lot to Catholics," Mututho added

Former Naivasha MP Jane Kihara lashed out at the county government for failing to address the issue of cholera claiming that almost all sub-counties in the region have been affected.

"The governor has shifted from harassing hawkers and is now targeting nuns. The arrest of the nun was unconstitutional," Kihara said.

The nun was however, released on Tuesday evening on a Sh5,000 cash bond after intervention of senior government officials.
