MPs are advocating for the decentralisation of the registration of the national identity cards.
MP, Chris Wamalwa said the registration should be decentralised to a county government level by the national government. He urges that the county government will quicken the process and make sure that all applicants get their identity cards on time.
This comes after a report was given that many identity cards were still lying at different centres. The owners of the identity cards have not yet picked them. This, however, raises questions of how the owners can take the voters card since the IDs will be required during the registration of voters.
Former head of civil service, Francis Kimemia also urged adults to collect their identity cards saying it is a constitutional right and that the IDs will also help them participate in democracy. Other members of parliament and government officials have been mobilising Kenyans to register as voters so that they can take part in the coming general elections.
