Kenyans of goodwill have been called upon to contribute towards setting up of a local wheelchair manufacturing workshop by SafariSeat.
SafariSeat has designed wheelchairs which can be made in basic workshops, using bicycle components.
Through SafariSeat website, Kenyans can now contribute towards the initiative which is meant to avail wheelchairs that enhance independence, unlocking access to education, employment, and a life beyond the confines of the disabled.
“We’ve put all our resources into getting this far - now we need your support to develop the open source toolkit and begin manufacture with local workshops in Kenya to make as many SafariSeats as possible,” reads a statement on SafariSeat website.
Setting up of local workshops will enable people living with disabilities to get access to wheelchair repair services easily.
Additionally, local manufacturer keeps all costs low and means the user can communicate directly with the manufacturer, enabling custom modifications where needed.
