Opposition leader Raila Odinga's son, Raila Odinga Junior has lauded the gains made by Kenya in terms of respect for human rights and freedoms.
Kenya, despite having a number of challenges, is believed to be the most advanced democratically across the continent, thanks to the new Constitutional order.
In 2010, the country passed the new Constitution which is strongly anchored in the Bill of Rights, as a key factor in democratic development.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Raila Junior lauded the country, noting that he's lucky to Kenyan by birth and thus a resident.
"Sometimes I thank my lucky stars I’m Kenyan, the 2nd liberation and new constitution brought us so many more added freedoms and liberties that we take for granted. What living in a police state means," he said.
Junior was making reference to the order by Ugandan police which banned residents from holding private meetings without police approval.
The order is said to have targeted firebrand Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, who is intending to run for presidency.
Junior's father, Raila Odinga, is one of the politicians who paid the price when the country was fighting for pluralism in 1980s and 90s.
Odinga was detained by former President Daniel Moi's regime before succeeding in their quest for multiparty democracy in 1992.
