Majority of pupils who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) last year, are set to join secondary schools across the country starting next week, for the next phase of their studies.
However, one parent is willing to put up one of his kidneys for sell, in order to get money to enable his two sons join form one next week.
David Okello Amboka is a man in urgent need of financial support to see his sons through school.
“I am 43-years-old now, and I know I can survive with one kidney if that is the only way to get funds to pay for my sons school fees,” Amboka said in an interview on Sunday.
Amboka who comes from Ahero, Kisumu County now operates a boda boda business in Shiviriri area, Lurambi Constituency, Kakamega County.
His wife sells kales and tomatoes, with their meager earnings making it difficult for them to pay fees for their two sons.
The sons; Philip Otieno and Cliff Ochieng sat for KCPE at Nabongo Primary School in Kakamega County, and got 320 and 310 marks respectively.
Philip is supposed to join Friends School Mbale in Vihiga County; where form one school fees is over Sh40,000, while Cliff needs to join Ingotse High School in Kakamega County where fees is Sh40, 435.
Amboka’s first born daughter is a third year procurement student at the Kenya Institute of Management Studies (KIMS), which means that almost all of his earnings are directed to her fees.
He narrated that he used to work as a sales and marketing officer for the Marie Stopes Clinics in Naivasha, but things took a twist during the 2007 post election violence.
“During the post election violence, we were transferred to Kakamega. A few months later, were called in Nairobi and told we could no longer be sustained on the payroll,” he said.
