The suspension on Dola and Kifaru maize flour brands has been lifted by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) on Wednesday.
They were among various maize flour brands that had been banned by the government over alleged aflatoxin.
KEBS pointed out that their examination results proved that Dola and Kifaru met the approved levels of aflatoxin.
“KEBS inspectors thereafter conducted inspections to review and determine the effectiveness of the controls put in place by your firm that were to ensure that your future products meet the requirements of the fortified sifted maize meal specification,” read a statement by KEBS in part.
KEBS said it will be on the watch to make sure that Kenyans do not buy maize flour with aflatoxin.
Through use of market surveillance, factory inspections and testing, KEBS has nabbed various companies in the country using excess chemicals in their products to prolong their lifespan.
Dola is manufactured by Kitui Flour Mills and Kifaru is manufactured by Alpha Grain Limited which had been temporarily banned alongside other maize flour brands on November 9 2019.
Starehe maize flour manufactured by Pan African Grain Millers, Two Ten manufactured by Kenblest Limited and Jembe manufactured by Kensal Rise Limited are the other three which were also banned.
KEBS has not yet lifted the ban on these three brands.
