On Wednesday, Karua, the 2013 presidential candidate, announced her candidature for the seat which has attracted a lot of attention after Waiguru declared her interest in the forthcoming polls.

Karua becomes the latest entrant in the race as she seeks to oust the incumbent Governor Joseph Ndathi.

On Wednesday, Waiguru told Citizen Digital that Karua is free to join the race, but exuded confidence in defeating her in the August 2017 elections.

“It is her (Ms Karua) democratic right to seek election. We are not worried as we have the support of the people of Kirinyaga,” she stated as quoted by Citizen Digital.

While declaring her interest in the seat, Karua said she would vie on a Narc Kenya ticket, adding that she 's better placed to effect change in the county and also initiate development projects that will benefit residents.
