The county needs 45 teachers in primary and 20 more in secondary schools to attain optimum staffing levels.

The teacher’s service commission in the constituency Martin Kiringu said the vast and arid county has grappled with the teacher shortage for some time and in spite of concerted efforts to address the issue, acceptable staffing levels are yet to be attained.

The official said that in the last two years, TSC has only managed to recruit a paltry 21 teachers for both primary and secondary

"An additional 50 teachers are needed for deployment in nursery schools to cater for over 2,000 children who join nursery school every year from the constituency," he said.

Speaking at an educational meeting with education stakeholders in the area on Monday held at sub county CDF hall, Kiringu said TSC was committed to adequately staffing all schools in the region.

He lauded some schools in the area especially those situated in far flung areas for continuously registering improved performance in national examinations irrespective of the challenges they faced.

He told the stakeholders to work diligently irrespective of the conditions of their work environment citing that he would soon make a proposal to the commission for deployment of more teachers.
