The education system in the country might be replaced soon, with the much used 8-4-4 set to be discarded in favour of a more efecive one.
The system will be implemented in May on pilot basis in lower primary schools, as the ministry of education seeks to find the right system that is knowledge-oriented.
The new system will tend to concentrate more on regular assessment tests, over the current system that lays emphasis on final one-off exams.
According to the Daily Nation, the new system will be rolled out in January 2018, covering nursery, Standard One, Two and Three.
The revelation comes ahead of a major conference on the curriculum scheduled for January 30 that will discuss the proposed system and schedules.
After the rollout in lower primary level in January next year, the system will be rolled out to the rest of the levels; Standard Four to Six in 2019, before the last phase is done in 2020, which will cover Standard Seven Eight and Form one.
In 2021, the system will be extended to Form Two only and in the following year it will cover Form Three, before the final phase covering Form Four is done in 2013.
According to the a National Basic Education Curriculum Framework implementation plan developed by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, the last Standard Eight candidates to sit for KCPE will write their papers in 2019, while the last Form Four to sit KCSE will write the papers in 2022.
