Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet elders in a meeting in Eldoret on Wednesday said the misunderstandings witnessed in various parts of the country could be tamed if the government brings all stakeholders on board.

Currently, Pokot and Marakwet communities are fighting over cattle rustling with many people losing their lives and property.

Nandi and Luo communities along the Kisumu-Nandi border are currently embroiled in a fight.

Led by chairman of Kalenjin Council of Elders Major John Seii, they said the government should not work alone in addressing peace matters but incorporate elders.

“We the elders have the solution by rallying the youth and everybody to listen to us because we provide the direction. The government should not sideline elders but involve them in the peace machinery,” Seii said.

Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno who was present at the function told the elders to provide leadership for economic growth.

“Today, we met with to elders to discuss peace efforts in our three counties. We need the elders to take up a lead role,” Chemno said.
