Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Thursday revisited his famous anti-anti-government remarks, insisting that there will be no elections before proper governance and electoral changes are done.

Mr Odinga reconciled with President Uhuru Kenyatta last year, and the two have been leading unity rallies across the country, setting another initiative called BBI to collect views from people on changes to be done.

At Moi Girls, Mr Odinga said his decision to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta was meant to bring peace, adding that only those who were 'sworn in' took parts in the peace talks.

"It was between those who took the oath. We met and discussed on how to take Kenya forward. We agreed to drop 2022 politics. There will be no elections without proper reforms. Prepare for vital moments where you'll make a decision," he said on reference to BBI referendum.

At the same time, Raila took a swipe at Thirdway Alliance boss Ekuru Aukot, arguing that that the only referendum Kenyans shall vote for is that which will be initiated by BBI.

"The only referendum we know is that of BBI. Kindly be ready to vote for it. Leave alone the Punguza Gunia thing (Punguza Mizigo)," said Mr Odinga amid cheers from his supporters.

On Wednesday, Dr Aukot accused Mr Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Aden Duale and Moses Wetangula of frustrating the Punguza Mizigo initiative, which will be subjected to counties for debate.

“Raila, Kalonzo, Aden Duale and Moses Wetangula are on record telling Kenyans to reject Punguza Mizigo proposals as we await the ongeza mzigo proposals. We are now more than ever convinced that they are the sponsors of the frivolous petitions against the bill in court,” said Aukot.

Should the Punguza Mizigo initiative garner support from 24 of 47 counties, technically, Kenya shall go for a referendum even if Parliament shoots it down.

Earlier on Thursday, Mr Odinga met ODM senators in Nairobi, with reports indicating that he discussed ways of countering Punguza Mizigo initiative at grassroots.

"Had a consultative meeting with senators drawn from @TheODMparty on a number of party and national issues," he said on his Twitter.
