Confirming the arrests on Thursday morning, Machakos Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Tenei noted that the suspects were arrested in their home in Kyamutheke village, Kathome in Machakos.

He said the trio is linked to carjacking incidents that have been taking place along the Konza-Machakos road, off the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

Tenei, however, noted that the main suspects escaped arrest.

"We had good leads and we appreciate Machakos people for working with us for the betterment of this society," said Tenei.

"We have been monitoring their movements and today we arrested three of them. We recovered almost everything that was stolen and only two phones haven't been found," he added.

He disclosed that a phone worth Sh56,000, two car radios and speakers, clothes, household items, and spikes were recovered during the operation.

The police boss said the suspects were involved in another robbery incident at Kapiti plains on July 3, 2018, where a 30-year-old motorist identified as Kangongi Yarakweny Pokot was murdered.

"They have been going from Kathome to Konza area to put spikes meant for carjacking, they are very old," he added.

The suspects identified as Nicholas Ndunda Kakui, Patrick Musau Kakui, and James Malumbi Kamii are being held at the Machakos Police Station pending their arraignment in court.
