Pipeline AIC Church, Nairobi, on Saturday conducted a mass wedding for 66 couples aged between 34 to 56 years.
Reports on Standard indicate that the church organised the mass wedding to enable the couples, who are members of the church, to have an affordable wedding.
Deputy Bishop Abraham Mulwa said the church contributed Sh800,000 towards the event.
Each couple was reportedly required to pay Sh1,400 at the office of the Attorney General, and also had to buy wedding rings.
“Those who worship here are majorly low-income earners. Therefore, the church has taken the initiative of sponsoring this event. What they are required to do is to buy their wedding rings and proceed with the union,” Mulwa said.
This is, however, not the first mass wedding to be witnessed this year.
In February, 57 couples wedded at Karaba Wango Catholic Church in Mbeere South, Embu County.
Embu Bishop Rev Paul Kariuki advised youths not to shun church wedding on the notion that they were expensive.
He further urged to take stern action against those involved in same sex marriage.
“The government should not allow same-sex relationships. A man should marry a woman as God instructs. If same-sex unions are allowed, the future generation would be at risk,” he said as quoted by Standard.
