Residents of North Eastern region have been left wondering on the sudden increase of individuals flocking the region with intention of getting into elective politics, especially posts of Member of County Assembly (MCA).
At the moment, over 90 candidates have expressed interest to vie for the position in Garissa, Mandera and Wajir counties.
Locals now say the massive influx of outsiders to regional politics is something to be concerned about since they could have realised of a weak point that they need to exploit.
"North Eastern region has its own able leaders. We fail to understand why the influx of people, from as far as Kitui, come to Garissa. I suspect they want to exploit the residents then finally move out," noted Ahmed Osman, an aspiring MCA.
Garissa Township is among the most sought after wards in the region with over 20 aspirants eyeing to take over the current MCA, Abdifatah Hussein.
Other wards in Garissa County which have been cited to be also competitive include Balambala, Iftin, Galbet, Modogashe and Sangailu.
Currently, the position of MCA just requires an aspirant be a registered voter in the area of interest and satisfy the constitutional provisions as stated by the IEBC.
